DIY Halloween Door Mat

This was a really fun project for my daughter and I, we love anything crafty so this was right up our halloween haunted alley! There is very little prep that goes into this project, really once you have all your materials it only took us about an hour to get it all painted and then the hard part was waiting for it to dry. Here's what you need:

Blank door mat or mats

Cookie cutters or print and cut out stencils

Paints and mat

Brushes and round sponges

Markers

Flexseal

First step is to layout your design, we just did an overall Halloween theme and put our shapes around Boo!, you can certainly go with a specific theme if you want to.

Next trace your stencils on the outside, not inside like we did, it worked but mistakes were made. Now just start painting, we did find that using the sponges were the best for this job. Brushes can work, but we liked the results with the sponges better because of the mat material the paint really needs to be globbed on there. We did do two coats, this paint dries pretty fast so we would move on and paint another one before going over the previous one. Leave it to dry completely overnight and then spray with the flexseal.

I let the first coat dry and then sprayed it again, I left it in the sun for a few hours to make sure it was dry then put it out on the front step. We've been using it every day and love it, it's an amazing memory I have with my daughter and will think about our crafting time every time I see it.
